The lack of rain in several communities of the Nangade
headquarters, in northern Cabo Delgado, is threatening agricultural production
for the 2024-2025 year, putting the region’s food security at risk.
Crops are drying up due to the scarcity of rainfall, and the
populations in these communities, who mainly depend on growing products such as
sesame, are helpless in the face of their lost harvests.
According to Mozanorte, many farmers invested their money in
preparing the fields, but since the beginning of February, rain has only fallen
once.
Remígio Martins, one of the local producers, stated that
this year will be difficult for agricultural production, and the situation may
worsen in the coming weeks.
Milda Mbuzanga from Nangade also expressed concern about the
impact of this rain shortage on the region’s crops. (Teodoro Sebastião)
