The little history of Niassa province
The Province of Niassa is a subdivision of Mozambique, located in the far northwest of the country. It is the largest province in the country, covering about 129,000 km², with the city of Lichinga as its capital. It has 16 districts: Lago, Sanga, Chimbunila, Lichinga City, Nguna, Mandimba, Mavago, Muembe, Mecula, Majune, Marrupa, Cuamba, Metarica, Maúa, Nipepe, and Mecanhelas; 39 administrative posts, 79 localities, and 5 municipalities (Lichinga, Cuamba, Marrupa, Metangula, and Mandimba). In the Nyanja language, "Niassa" means "Lake."
The Province of Niassa is located in the northern region of Mozambique, and borders Tanzania, the provinces of Nampula and Zambezia, the province of Cabo Delgado, and Malawi, as well as Lake Niassa, one of the African Great Lakes.
It is a
region with great potential for agriculture, and the lake that bears the
province's name also offers conditions not only for tourism but also for
fishing. It has incredible cultural diversity.
