Gunfire heard in Litandacua, residents of Macomia report

Residents of Macomia town have confirmed that several bursts of gunfire were heard on Sunday in Chai Administrative Post, specifically in the areas of Litandacua and Novo Cabo Delgado. However, they were unable to provide further details about the incident.

The sources said they believe the incident may have been another terrorist attack, explaining that they were unable to reach their relatives by phone after suspected insurgents or terrorists reportedly entered the two villages at around 4 a.m.

The two areas are relatively close to each other and are also not far from National Road 380 (N380), raising concerns about the safety and free movement of people along the road.

The two communities have been attacked in the past, forcing residents to completely abandon the areas.

The residents also said that local security forces, which have been protecting the population in the area for several days, were reportedly unable to respond effectively to the attackers due to an alleged shortage of weapons and other military equipment. (MozaNorte)
