Young Africa has concluded a three-month training programme in entrepreneurship and small business management for girls and young women at 16 de Junho and Jembesse Primary Schools on Ilha de Moçambique
The initiative ended with the distribution of business starter kits to selected beneficiaries, aimed at helping them launch income-generating activities and strengthen their economic independence.
A total of 90 girls took part in the training, including 30 from the island area and 60 from Jembesse Primary School. Of these, 25 beneficiaries received business kits containing food products and other essential goods to help them establish and operate small stalls.
The kits included six bags of rice, five bags of flour, ten boxes of tea, three trays of eggs, two boxes of OMO detergent, two bags of NPK fertiliser, a 20-litre container of cooking oil, paprika, sweets, chilli powder, 10 kilograms of beans, five kilograms of onions, two packs of sweets, two boxes of stock cubes and sugar, among other items.
Another group of beneficiaries received 15 pieces of cotton capulana fabric to support small businesses involving the sale of products made from the traditional material.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Director of the District Services for Economic Activities (SDAE), Jubeta Mamudo Namaneque, encouraged the young women to continue their education and put the skills acquired during the training into practice.
She also urged the beneficiaries to make the most of the opportunity to develop their businesses and achieve greater economic independence, adding that the Government would continue to support and monitor youth entrepreneurship initiatives.
The beneficiaries thanked Young Africa for the programme and pledged to use the resources responsibly, grow their businesses and improve the living conditions of their families.
The programme forms part of broader efforts to promote women’s entrepreneurship and economic independence among young women by providing training in small business management and the resources needed to start income-generating activities. (Fátima Abacar)
