Fisherman disappears at sea during fishing activities in Liupo

Following a period of bad weather in the Liupo district, specifically in the administrative post of Quinga, fishermen resumed their fishing activities in the area. During the stormy weather, they had managed to organize their nets and repair boats that were in poor condition.

On August 13, 2025, a fisherman went missing in the administrative post of Quinga, in the Mussirimage fishing center one of the centers bordering the Mogincual district. This is the largest fishing center in the region, employing fishermen from various parts of Nampula Province, including Nacala, Mogincual, Angoche, and Mozambique Island.

The incident occurred during fishing activities while the fisherman was organizing his net. Suddenly, the boat capsized, and he disappeared. Fellow fishermen nearby rushed to the scene where the net and the boat were located and attempted to find him, but without success. They then reported the disappearance to the relevant local authorities: CCP, PCLF, and INAMAR.

On the morning of August 14, these authorities, together with local fishermen, traveled to Mussirimage to continue the search. However, they were unsuccessful, and the search continues today. This area is rich in marine resources, with catches including octopus, stonefish, lobster, and other species including sharks.

Authorities thanked the fishermen of the center for their cooperation, as most of them suspended their fishing activities to assist in the search for their colleague, who has been missing for two days. At this time, there are no further updates on the case, but we will provide more details as soon as our source on the ground shares new information. (BP)
