Nampula Governor sees his proposal rejected by Angoche strikers

After employees of the Angoche Municipality, in Nampula Province, brought their work activities to a halt, Governor Eduardo Abdula travelled from the northern capital to the district of Angoche in order to closely monitor the shutdown of local municipal services.

During the consultation meeting, the governor was forced to negotiate with the strikers, proposing the payment of two months out of the six months of salary arrears. However, this proposal was rejected by the workers.

According to Governor Eduardo Abdula, he stated the following “I will use my own resources to help minimize the salary delay of the two months in question.”

In response, speaking through one of their representatives, the strikers stated “We do not accept the payment of only two months. We demand the settlement of the full six months of outstanding salaries,” adding that they may also face excessive deductions by banks due to loans they have taken.

It should be noted that the Angoche Municipality has been completely shut down since yesterday, January 22 of the current year. (Gabriel Cassimo)
