Last Monday, a meeting took place in the town of Metangula, in Niassa province bringing together civil society, the district and provincial government, community leaders, some public officials, and other entities linked to the health and education sectors. During the meeting, a report on the activities carried out by civil society in the communities was presented.
Virgílio Maruassa, Project Officer at CESC, explained that the objective of the meeting was to present to the government a report containing information collected from the communities regarding the problems they face in areas such as health, education, road access, and water supply.
Virgílio also emphasized the importance of the meeting as an opportunity for community representatives to present their concerns to government officials and, together, develop an action plan to address these problems in the communities.
The District Administrator, José Achida, highlighted the importance of monitoring the activities of public institutions by civil society in order to ensure transparency and promote a change in the mindset of public servants.
During the meeting, several community concerns were presented, including: lack of water in schools, the need to build maternity wards in some villages, school fencing, access to electricity, improvement of access roads, among others. (Davide Muianga)
