Nacala-Porto Mayor accused of Lack of communication with neighborhood leaders

The Mayor of Nacala Porto, in Nampula province Faruk, held a meeting with neighborhood secretaries at the Praça dos Heróis, more than a year after his election a period deemed lengthy by local leaders and residents alike.

On the morning of May 8, 2025, Mayor Faruk conducted an important meeting with the city’s neighborhood secretaries. This gathering, the first since his inauguration, was prompted by growing concerns among the secretaries, who had long awaited the opportunity to present their demands and challenges.

The need for dialogue became evident to the president after he heard murmurs regarding a lack of communication between the municipal administration and neighborhood representatives. During the meeting, which began at 9 a.m., Faruk emphasized his intention to listen to the secretaries' concerns and share his plans for the city's development.

One of the main topics discussed was the ongoing water supply project in several neighborhoods. The mayor also highlighted the importance of road construction and the establishment of educational institutions, continuing work initiated by the previous mayor. Faruk noted that many neighborhoods are lacking schools, hospitals, and police stations, making it difficult for children and families to access essential services.

The secretaries took this opportunity to voice their frustrations and aspirations, drawing comparisons with the previous administration under a president known as Ruca. They pointed out that the lack of coordination between the municipal administration and local leaders has hindered community development.

Faruk acknowledged this communication gap and committed to improving dialogue with secretaries to ensure that residents' needs are met.

For now, the people of Nacala Porto eagerly await the fulfillment of promises made during what many consider a crucial meeting. BP
