Fear
has returned to the district of Mueda, particularly in the town center, located
in the northern province of Cabo Delgado. Although the town has never been
invaded by terrorists, the recent rise in insurgent threats is creating a
climate of heightened tension and vigilance.
In
response, a nighttime movement restriction regime has been put into effect,
increasing military control at various points throughout the town.
According
to sources on the ground, civilians are required to stay indoors by 9:00 PM.
After that hour, only the Mozambique Armed Defense Forces (FADM), PRM officers,
and local forces are allowed to move freely through the streets and avenues of
the municipality.
“We must take precautions. That’s why we’ve implemented these preventive measures, such as movement restrictions. Mueda has never been invaded, and we are working to ensure it remains safe,”, explained Patrício Guilherme Maviri, administrator of the Mueda district.
In
the neighborhoods, the public response is mixed some feel relieved by the
increased security, while others express discomfort with the military presence.
