Local residents reported the presence of alleged heavily armed insurgents along the national road N1, in the Nipataco area, in Metuge district Cabo Delgado, on the morning of October 16th, lasting until around 5:00 p.m.
According to information shared by locals, the insurgents were seen sitting by the roadside near the area where the Agriculture and Forestry services operate. Despite the presence of the armed men, some vehicles managed to pass through the area without being stopped, while other drivers chose to turn back out of fear of confrontation.
"It's true. They were there since the morning, well-uniformed and armed. Up to now, we don't know whether they have left the area or if they are still there," said a local resident.
Many sources believe that the group of insurgents was returning from Nampula Province, where they reportedly carried out several incursions last week.
Meanwhile, the same sources stated that over the past three days, Metuge District has started receiving reinforcements from the defense and security forces to respond to any situation that could endanger the lives of the population an action welcomed by residents. (Mozanorte)
