Since the early days of last week (11–14), in the district of Memba, Nampula province, the population of the villages and the district’s administrative center has been spending sleepless nights due to the situation unfolding in the region.
Starting on November 13, 2025, residents of the village of Geba, in the district of Memba, were unable to sleep and spent the night gathered in a single location after rumors spread that a group of armed men had been sighted.
According to the information reaching residents, the group had been seen near the district headquarters. Given the short distance between Memba town and the village of Geba, many people decided to stay together and vigilant, waiting for any possible movement.
The population remained on alert throughout the night, but no suspicious individuals entered the village. Residents say that the situation affects not only Geba, but several other villages in the district of Memba, including the locality of Semuco and the administrative post of Chipene, and that the climate of tension is already beginning to spread to the administrative post of Mazua.
Some residents, unable to continue sleeping in the bush or spending nights without rest in their villages, decided to temporarily leave the district, waiting for the situation to return to normal. Memba is a district located in the coastal zone. (BP)
