Brave young man transports a corpse on his motorcycle in Macomia

In recent years, Cabo Delgado Province has been facing terrorist attacks for nearly a decade. Because of this situation, in some affected areas the population has increasingly relied on motorcycles, as they are considered safer than cars and are able to travel through difficult-to-access areas.

In Macomia, a young man popularly known as Antigo is one of the motorcycle taxi drivers who knows many villages in the district of Macomia and neighboring districts very well. This rider even transports lifeless bodies back to their places of origin for funeral ceremonies, whether deaths are declared at the hospital or result from accidents.

For example, following an accident that occurred on January 20, 2026, in the district of Muidumbe, in the Miangaleua area, the passenger who lost his life at the scene was a native of one of the villages of Muidumbe. The body, together with the injured, was taken to the Macomia District Hospital.

On the morning of the 21st, the family of the deceased did not have the means to rent a car, and even if they had, they would have needed to wait for an escort to evacuate the body to their district. As a result, they decided to look for a motorcycle taxi driver as the fastest way to reach their destination.

The aforementioned young rider transported the body to the district of Muidumbe, where the family carried out the funeral ceremonies. He is known for his courage, as he has transported lifeless bodies on several occasions—this not being the first time—unlike some other taxi drivers who are unable to do so.

During his journeys, he does not need to wait for an escort and makes no unnecessary stops along the way until reaching the client’s destination. (BP)
