The Provincial Directorate of Migration in Nampula recently detained and presented to the public on the morning of this Thursday (5) fifteen foreign citizens for illegal stay in the national territory.
The detention operation took place in the district of Angoche, where the individuals were found inside a house that was under construction.
Of the total detainees, fourteen are Chinese nationals and one is Congolese, all suspected of being in the country with an irregular migration status.
According to the spokesperson for Migration in Nampula, Enercia Nota, the action falls within the scope of activities aimed at bringing migration services closer to communities, as well as raising awareness about the need for foreign citizens in the country to regularize their migration status.
According to the official, these actions also aim to inform the general public about the dangers and consequences of illegal immigration, in addition to warning about the risks associated with using intermediaries to process migration documents.
Enercia Nota explained that when migration officers arrived at the location, some of the foreign citizens attempted to flee but were eventually intercepted inside the unfinished house where they were staying.
Regarding the Congolese national, the spokesperson revealed that he presented a document claiming asylum seeker status, which raised suspicions about its authenticity. The document was forwarded to the competent authorities for verification.
After analysis, it was found that the document does not appear in the database of the institution responsible for issuing it, raising indications that it may have been falsified.
The Provincial Directorate of Migration in Nampula also clarified that the case will be forwarded to the competent authorities for the appropriate legal procedures.
Meanwhile, the authorities are appealing to foreign citizens who are in the country irregularly to voluntarily report to migration services in order to regularize their stay in the national territory. (Mozanorte)
