Another lifeless body found on the outskirts of Montepuez

A lifeless body was discovered on Monday morning (2) on the banks of the Niura River, in the Matandane neighborhood, in the city of Montepuez, southern Cabo Delgado. The victim is an as-yet unidentified man, believed to be over 32 years old.

According to reports, there are indications that the victim may have been physically assaulted before being tied with mosquito net rope, burned, and later thrown into the river.

At the scene, a multi-sectoral team composed of the National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC), the Health sector, the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), and the National Public Rescue Service (SENSAP) carried out procedures aimed at determining the circumstances of the incident.

As the body has not yet been claimed, the competent authorities have delegated responsibility to the community leadership to proceed with the burial, while investigations continue to clarify the case.

This is yet another criminal episode affecting the city of Montepuez within a few days. Recently, several cases of gender-related killings have been reported. (Mozanorte)
