The province of Niassa celebrated Mozambique's Independence Day on Wednesday, June 25. The city of Lichinga hosted the official ceremonies, bringing together government officials, public servants, students, and local residents to commemorate the proclamation of Mozambique's independence in 1975.

The day began with a wreath-laying ceremony at Heroes' Square, followed by a parade along the city's main avenue, Avenida do Trabalho. The event featured members of the Defence and Security Forces, schools, public institutions, and cultural groups. Students carried banners promoting peace, patriotism, and development.

In her speech, Niassa Governor Elin Judite Massenger highlighted the province's achievements in education, healthcare, and infrastructure over the past 51 years. She also delivered a message of unity, saying: "Independence is built every day. Through hard work, honesty, and love for our country, we will build the Niassa we aspire to have."

For local residents, the occasion was also a time for reflection. "It is a day to remember the sacrifices of those who fought for our freedom and for us to continue their legacy through unity," said a resident of Chuaula neighborhood.
