PRM Seizes 820 litres of fuel from Malawi Intended for sale in Niassa

The Mozambique Police (PRM) seized approximately 820 litres of fuel as part of an operation to combat fuel smuggling in Niassa Province. According to the police, the fuel had been purchased in Malawi and was intended for illegal sale in Mozambique.

Police spokesperson Nelson de Sousa said the operation was carried out simultaneously in the districts of Cuamba, Chimbunila, and Lichinga, areas identified as major transit points for fuel being transported without the required documentation.

The fuel was stored in drums and plastic containers and was being transported illegally for commercial purposes. Authorities have not yet disclosed the number of suspects arrested, but confirmed that criminal proceedings have already been initiated.

The police have urged members of the public to report suspected cases of illegal fuel transportation and sales, particularly in border areas and along roads leading to the districts.

The seized fuel has been handed over to the relevant authorities for the appropriate legal procedures. (By Ermelinda João)
