Cabo Delgado: authorities acknowledge that Chido victims need
humanitarian aid
Over 50,000 families have been affected by Cyclone Chido
in the city of Pemba and the districts of Mecufi, Metuge, and Chiúre in Cabo
Delgado province in northern of Mozambique. This number of families corresponds
to approximately 350,000 people in these districts, including the city of
Pemba.
In reality, these families are struggling to recover
after the cyclone due to the severe losses and lack of resources to move
forward at this stage.
Specifically, they complain about the lack of support, as
many are left without shelter, lacking food and essential supplies.
Since the cyclone, no one has been able to fully recover,
which has increased the level of poverty and hunger in these families, as their
needs remain numerous. To this day, families continue to receive no support.
In a meeting of the Emergency Operations Committee, State
Secretary António Supeia and the Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo acknowledged that
these families are going through difficult times due to the lack of support.
They emphasized the urgent need to create conditions to alleviate their suffering.
For his part, the INGD delegate in Cabo Delgado, Marques
Naba, also recognized the plight of the victims of Cyclone Chido, but stated
that his team is working to find partnerships to ease the hardships these
people are facing.
Last week, the Integrated Development Agency of the North
(ADIN) visited Mecufi district, the most affected, and also called for more
support for the population and the district government, although it left some
material for the reconstruction of infrastructure. (Sifa Artur)
