At least 1,492 families living in the Sassalane
neighborhood in the Mecúfi district, Cabo Delgado province, in northern
Mozambique, received food aid this Friday (10) as part of efforts to minimize
the effects of Cyclone Chido.
It has been 27 days since Tropical Cyclone Chido hit the
Mecúfi district in Cabo Delgado, but only this Friday was the community in the
Sassalane neighborhood remembered and received food assistance for the first
time. The aid package included 12.5 kg of rice, 2 liters of oil, 4.5 kg of
peas, and 5 cans of sardines per family.
Fernando Abel Neves, the Administrator of the Mecúfi
district, urged and encouraged the population to remain resilient.
He explained that the delay in the distribution of
products in Mecúfi and other areas is due to difficult access zones, especially
during the rainy season.
On the occasion, he assured that the government is still
working with its partners to ensure assistance for the entire population.
Neves asked the youth to organize into groups to cut
stakes (poles) and bamboo in the forest, as the government will provide
transportation for families to rebuild their homes. (Libério Dinis)
