In Mocimboa da Praia district, in Cabo Delgado province in northern of Mozambique, around 50 people received freezers today, February 2nd, to boost their small businesses, an initiative that reflects a gesture of solidarity and hope amidst significant challenges.
Among the beneficiaries were
25 men and 25 women, all impacted by the crisis caused by terrorism in the
region.
The distribution of the
equipment was carried out in collaboration between the International
Organization for Migration (IOM) Mozambique and Japanese partners, who joined
forces to support these affected families, providing not only tools but also a
symbol of resilience and new beginnings.
The beneficiaries expressed
their gratitude for the gesture, recognizing the importance of this support in
their lives. For many, these freezers represent an opportunity to expand their
businesses, ensuring a more stable income source and the possibility of
providing better living conditions for their families.
The beneficiaries expressed
gratitude but also hope, particularly for those who used to sell fish before
being forced to flee their homes. For them, the freezer means they can return
to what they knew how to do.
"Now I can work again,
store leftovers, and sell more the next day," said Amina, one of the
beneficiaries.
The initiative not only
supports individual economic recovery but also strengthens the social fabric of
local communities that have faced extreme adversities. (Armando António)
