On the night of Thursday,
February 20, the city of Pemba experienced a total power outage that lasted
until the morning of the following day. Around 5:00 PM, electricity was
abruptly cut off, leaving the population anxious and hoping the service would
be restored quickly.
As the hours passed, the city
remained in darkness, causing growing concern among residents.
The situation was particularly
challenging for fish and frozen meat vendors, who feared their products would
spoil. Many began to panic, aware that significant losses were imminent due to
the lack of refrigeration, which could compromise the quality of their goods
and lead to financial losses.
It wasn’t until around 10:00 AM
on Friday, February 21, that the power was restored.
According to sources from the
Cabo Delgado Electricity Company, the blackout was caused by a damaged circuit
at the energy distribution center in Metoro, located in the Ancuabe district.
This incident affected not only
the city of Pemba but also the districts of Metuge and Mecufi, which were
without electricity during the same period.
The power outage has generated
discontent among citizens, who are calling for more transparency and
improvements in the region's electrical distribution system.
The situation also raises
concerns about the fragility of the local infrastructure, especially in a
rapidly growing city like Pemba.
The population is hoping that
measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, as they have
a direct impact on daily life and the local economy. (Sifa
