According to the INGD, Cyclone Jude, which struck the region with devastating force, has already claimed the lives of 16 people, leaving 59 injured and two missing. More than 302,000 people have been directly affected by the destruction, with 65,164 families facing the destruction or damage to their homes.

The transport and communication sector was not spared. Eighteen bridges were damaged, 2,859 km of roads were affected, and 671.70 km of roads became impassable, complicating movement and assistance in the affected areas.

In the energy sector, the cyclone caused the collapse of 1,224 power poles and the destruction of 73 km of electrical lines, worsening the local crisis.

Furthermore, the agricultural sector was heavily impacted, with 101,239 hectares of cultivated land affected, 36,358 hectares of which were completely lost. About 4,146 farmers saw their crops destroyed, while 68 fishing boats and fishing gear were damaged, undermining the livelihoods of many coastal communities.

The scale of the damage highlights the urgent need for ongoing efforts to mitigate the impacts and provide support to the affected populations.

The data released by INGD is general, but the northern region of Mozambique, particularly Nampula province, bore the brunt of the negative impacts.
