Urgent: 40 Fishermen fall into terrorist trap in Mocímboa da Praia

Lives are at stake. At least 40 men, including heads of households and fishermen, are reportedly held hostage after being abducted on the night of Wednesday (19), near Tambuzi Island, in the waters of the Mocímboa da Praia district, in Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.

The action is attributed to terrorists who, since 2017, have carried out incursions in this and other areas of Cabo Delgado province, including Nampula and Niassa. The terrorists have been intensively circulating in the region in recent weeks.

There has been no official response from the authorities yet, but, according to sources from the village of Mocímboa da Praia, the abduction of the 40 fishermen is the talk of the town.

Reports reveal a situation of desperation and anguish. Allegedly, the terrorists may demand money to release the hostages or may incorporate them into their ranks. (Mozanorte)
