Eight (8) activists from the Kalidwe Association, along with
health and education professionals, received training on sexual and
reproductive health and gender-based violence in Metangula, Lago district,
Niassa province. The training was organized by IPAS Mozambique.
During the sessions, IPAS trainers emphasized the importance
of strengthening the capacity of activists to effectively promote sexual health
within their communities.
Tito Sibanda, team leader of IPAS Mozambique, highlighted
the value of this training in enabling activists to deliver educational
messages on family planning, safe abortion, and gender-based violence. He also
stressed the need to challenge and eliminate myths and taboos that persist in
communities regarding sexual and reproductive health.
Gradi Mankhokwe, one of the trained activists, expressed
satisfaction with the training and said she feels ready to make a difference in
her community. Her goal is to ensure that girls and women have access to
accurate information especially on safe abortion and protection from
gender-based violence.
It is worth noting that IPAS Mozambique has been operating
in Lago district since 2023, working to promote community health with a focus
on women and girls, and combating gender-based violence.
