The challenge was issued this past Saturday, May 17, in the
town of Metangula, Lago district, during the celebration of the 50th
anniversary of the establishment of the Mozambican Republic Police (PRM). The
ceremony was led by Francisco Cândido, the district director of Education,
representing the district administrator.
In its address, the PRM in Lago called on the government to
continue investing in police training to ensure law enforcement officers are
well-versed in legal procedures. Additionally, the force urged the government
to equip the police with cutting-edge technology and reliable means of
transportation.
“We challenge the government to keep striving toward
innovation in training, so that PRM members are well-equipped with legal
knowledge and supported with modern technology and transportation,” said
Inspector Cássimo Mustafa.
In the same context, the officers also advocated for the
establishment of a community policing body tasked with monitoring suspicious
activities and potential threats.
Francisco Cândido, speaking on behalf of the district
administrator, acknowledged the efforts made by the police in fighting and
preventing crime, despite the challenging conditions in which they work. He
also encouraged the PRM to remain committed to maintaining public order,
safety, and peace, as well as to continue preventing crime and clarifying
criminal cases and other incidents in the district.
