On
Monday morning, July 21st, the Administrator of Sanga District, Catija
Afonso, officially handed over agricultural mechanization equipment to
farmer Quimo Iassine. He falls under the category of Small Commercial
and Emerging Farmer (PACE) and resides in Njesse locality, in the Macaloge
Administrative Post.
The
equipment, consisting of a tractor and its respective implements, was
allocated as part of the MOZ-RURAL program (formerly known as SUSTENTA).
The beneficiary contributed 25% of the total value.
During
the handover ceremony, District Administrator Catija Afonso urged the
beneficiary farmer to use the equipment responsibly and efficiently, also
encouraging him to share it with other Smallholder Farmers (PAs) in the
community. The delivery of the tractor is expected to contribute to the
expansion of cultivated areas and strengthen the agricultural sector in the
district.
In
turn, Quimo Iassine thanked the Government for its support and expressed his
commitment to using the equipment appropriately, also making it available to
other farmers in the region. The farmer highlighted the initiative's importance
as a catalyst for local agricultural development.
With
10 years of experience dedicated to agriculture, Quimo cultivates various
products, primarily corn and beans, across an area of 33 hectares. His
activities are supported by approximately 20 seasonal workers, in addition to
his family members. Thanks to the income generated from agricultural
production, he has been able to support his family, pay workers' wages, and
ensure his children's education.
The
farmer further explained that he was selected through a public tender, where he
was approved to receive the equipment. With the new tractor, Quimo expects to
significantly expand his production area, estimating to reach over 70
hectares, focusing on diverse food crops, including vegetables produced in
low-lying areas. (Ma Mataka)
