Since the passage of Cyclone
Chido, the Nanlia Health Center
in the Metuge district of Cabo Delgado has been without electricity, forcing
health professionals to provide medical care in the dark.
The facility, which offers primary care to the
local population, faces serious difficulties, especially during nighttime
services like births. Without proper lighting, health technicians resort to
improvised means such as flashlights, mobile
phone lights, and other portable devices to ensure minimum visibility
during procedures.
"This situation is very difficult for our
unit and for us, the technicians," said a health center user.
According to health professionals, each patient
in labor is instructed to bring a light source, usually a flashlight, along
with someone who can assist during the delivery.
A technician on duty revealed that the
situation has already been reported to the relevant authorities. However, to
date, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM)
has not yet restored the power supply to the facility.
The community and health workers are still
awaiting an urgent solution to ensure dignified conditions for patient care. (Seven Mussa)
