Cubá students delighted by desk donation from Pemba Municipality

Cobá Primary School, built around 2017, is located approximately three kilometres from the main N1 road.

Since last Tuesday, more than 1,500 students at this school no longer have to sit on the floor, thanks to the donation of 216 double desks by the Municipality of Pemba, in collaboration with other local entities.

This gesture directly benefited 1,541 students at Cobá Primary School, located in the Chuiba neighbourhood.

During the handover ceremony, the school’s administration expressed deep gratitude for the initiative but also highlighted other ongoing challenges, such as the shortage of teachers, classrooms, electricity, a staff room, and a proper fence around the school premises. These were identified as the main obstacles by the school’s management.

Since its construction in 2017, the school has had only one administrative block and five classrooms, resulting in overcrowded classes.

Both students and parents or guardians expressed their appreciation for the gesture from the Municipality of Pemba and called for the construction of additional classrooms, due to the increasing number of displaced students who need proper facilities and continuity in their education. This situation has led to the overcrowding of the existing classrooms.

The Mayor of Pemba, in turn, pledged to take action to address the issues faced by the school. (Sifa Artur)
