Terrorists Attack in Palma: one civilian died

Terrorists attacked Palma, in Cabo Delgado province, on the night of October 9, 2025, from around 11 p.m. until midnight. It was a night of great turmoil in the district headquarters village, especially in the Cularino neighborhood, near Palma Secondary School.

The incident has left the district on high alert, and many families were unable to sleep throughout the night. Following the previous attack in the locality of Pundanhar, also within the same district, the population had begun to feel more confident, believing the situation had stabilized.

When the insurgents arrived in the neighborhood, they used their known tactic of knocking on doors and asking for “permission.” In the absence of a response, they would break in and take whomever they wanted. In this attack, one person was killed and two were abducted.

The attackers began shooting after the operation, as a way to signal their presence in the area. However, there was no immediate response from the police or any other defense forces stationed in the district. The forces only arrived at around 5 a.m., when they found the body of the fatal victim.

The people of Palma are in disbelief over the incident, particularly because the district has a significant security presence, including in the neighborhood where the attack took place. It is an area patrolled day and night by troops and is also home to the Rwandan forces' barracks.

According to local sources, Palma remains silent in the aftermath of the attack, reflecting the tense and uncertain atmosphere.

So far, there has been no official statement from the relevant authorities. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on developments in Palma as they emerge. (BP)
