After several days of severe food shortages among families displaced by terrorist attacks in Mazua and Lúrio, in Memba district, humanitarian assistance has finally reached Alua-Sede.
According with local sources, on Tuesday (18), the Governor of Nampula, Eduardo Abdula, mobilized three trucks loaded with essential food supplies to support the more than three thousand displaced people who sought refuge there following the attacks last Thursday (13).
The arrival of the trucks two mobilized by the Provincial Executive and one by the National Institute for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction (INGD), brought immediate relief to families who had been facing hunger and extremely harsh living conditions. Distribution began shortly after unloading, ensuring that women, children, and the elderly gained access to basic food items.
During his visit, the Governor expressed solidarity with the affected communities and highlighted the scale of the crisis. He noted that the number of displaced people is “exorbitant,” exceeding three thousand individuals, including more than three hundred children.
To accommodate the increasing influx, in addition to setting up 53 tents, the Executive identified a warehouse located about 300 meters from the administrative post to receive new families still arriving.
Eduardo Abdula also assured that more support is underway, coming from cooperation partners and well-meaning citizens. Psychosocial support services for women, children, and other traumatized families are already being provided on the ground. (Mozanorte)
