Have you ever imagined being denied medical care because you didn’t receive the cholera vaccine?

Residents of the Namialo administrative post, in Meconta district, say they are experiencing an unusual and worrying situation: the alleged refusal of medical assistance at the local health center for those who have not received the cholera vaccine.

The complaints come from several patients who report difficulties in accessing basic health services, including maternal and child care as well as pediatric consultations.

According to testimonies, some health workers are allegedly requiring the vaccination card as a condition for providing care. One mother explained that when she went to weigh her child, she was told she would not be assisted because she had not taken part in the vaccination campaign.

Another resident confirmed that many people in Namialo are facing the same challenge.

Health center denies any refusal of service

In response to the allegations, the head physician of the Namialo health facility, Leonardo Evaristo, publicly denied that any form of conditional service is being applied. According to him, the cards distributed during the vaccination campaign are meant solely for registration and monitoring purposes and are not a requirement for receiving treatment.(Mozanorte)
