Angoche Municipal council on strike

Employees of the Angoche Municipal Council have gone on strike due to delays in the payment of their salaries, which have been outstanding for six months, including three months of arrears, as well as the non-payment of the 13th salary. This situation led caretakers and other municipal workers to decide on a total shutdown of activities due to the lack of salary payments.

Similarly, the workers posted a notice addressed to the employer, announcing the suspension of activities in the following departments and sectors: total closure of revenue collection due to the non-payment of market stall fees, annual licenses, sand mining and quarry fees, collections at Acacias and Km 13, loading and unloading services, personal tax, and the absence of enforcement by the Municipal Police.

The workers stated that they will only return to work once their demands are resolved as soon as possible.

It is important to note that this is not the first strike to occur at the Angoche Municipal Council. A similar situation was reported last year. Moreover, the failure to pay salaries is not limited to Angoche alone.

The same issue has also resurfaced at the Nacala Municipal Council, where employees have gone without pay for approximately four months and continue to wait daily for their wages. (Gabriel Cassimo)
