The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) have arrested 16 citizens, aged between 21 and 50, on charges of drug trafficking and consumption in the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado province.
This is yet another case involving the detention of young people considered the future of Mozambique who, allegedly due to a lack of parental and institutional guidance, have fallen into the world of drugs.
The arrests took place on the 14th and 15th of the current month, following an operational effort carried out by the PRM after reports indicated the existence of several points of sale of crystallized methamphetamine. Of the total number detained, 11 are consumers and five were identified as suppliers of the drug.
The information was made public on Saturday morning at the 2nd PRM Police Station in Pemba by the spokesperson of the Provincial Command of the PRM in Cabo Delgado, Eugénia Nhamussua.
According to the source, the arrests resulted from six raids conducted in the neighborhoods of Paquitequete, Ingonane, Natite, Eduardo Mondlane, Josina Machel, Alto Gingone, and Nanhimbe.
Eugénia Nhamussua explained that some of the suspects were caught in the act of selling illicit substances in public places, while others were arrested inside their homes.
During the operations, the police claim to have seized about 650 grams of cannabis, 10.3 grams of methamphetamine, several mobile phones, and a scale used to weigh the drugs. (Mozanorte)
