From April 3 to 5, the Municipal Stadium in the city of Pemba hosted a quadrangular tournament that brought together four teams, with the aim of preparing northern zone teams for strong performances in the 2026 Moçambola, which, notably, started late.
The participating teams were Ferroviário de Nampula, Ferroviário de Nacala, Associação Desportiva de Pemba, and Baía Futebol Clube, making the event a true rehearsal for the 2026 Moçambola.
The standings were as follows:
Day 1: Baía FC 1 – Ferroviário de Nacala 1
Associação Desportiva de Pemba 0 – Ferroviário de Nampula 0
Day 2: Baía FC 1 – Pemba 0
Ferroviário de Nacala 1 – Ferroviário de Nampula 2
Day 3 (Final Day): Baía FC 0 – Ferroviário de Nampula 1
Pemba 0 – Ferroviário de Nacala 1
Ferroviário de Nampula emerged as the tournament winner with 7 points. Ferroviário de Nacala finished in second place with 4 points, followed by Baía FC, also with 4 points, in third place, and Associação Desportiva de Pemba with 1 point.
In interviews with the coaches, Ferroviário de Nampula head coach Nacir Armando expressed satisfaction with the tournament initiative, noting that it helped address team weaknesses and improve technical aspects, aiming for a strong start in the Moçambola.
Ferroviário de Nacala assistant coach Abneiro Ussaca also praised the tournament, considering it positive as it allowed the team to identify areas for improvement and assess individual player performance, better preparing the squad for the national championship.
Meanwhile, Baía FC head coach Artur Semedo highlighted that, after a month of work, he is satisfied with the players' performance, especially considering that most come from the second division, and reaffirmed the commitment to continue working towards the Moçambola.
Victor Mayamba, coach of Associação Desportiva de Pemba, also viewed the initiative positively, stating that it would help in organizing the team and preparing it to achieve victories in the national championship.
In the same spirit, women’s teams from the Municipality of the City of Pemba also competed to celebrate Mozambican Women’s Day. Académica lost to Pulaide by 2–1, while Golfinhos defeated Baía by 2–1. (Maria Forquilha)
