Defence minister visits Rwandan forces in Mocímboa da Praia, reaffirms cooperation in Cabo Delgado

 

The Minister of National Defence, Cristóvão Chume, paid recently a courtesy visit to the Rwandan Security Forces stationed in Mocímboa da Praia, Cabo Delgado province, with the aim of closely assessing the operational situation on the ground and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism in northern Mozambique.

According to one official source, during the visit, the minister received a detailed briefing on the current security situation and the progress of ongoing operations being carried out in coordination with the Mozambique Defence Armed Forces (FADM).

Speaking during the meeting, Cristóvão Chume highlighted the important role played by the Rwandan forces in the stabilization process of Cabo Delgado, emphasizing the progress made in restoring security and protecting communities affected by terrorist attacks.

The source added that the minister also reaffirmed the Mozambican Government’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Rwanda in the fields of defence and security, describing the partnership between the two countries as a strategic pillar for consolidating peace and stability in Cabo Delgado.

The presence of Rwandan forces in Cabo Delgado continues to be regarded as a key component of joint efforts aimed at combating violent extremism and creating conditions for the gradual return of displaced communities to their areas of origin. (Mozanorte)
