This Tuesday, May 12, marked another celebration of International Nurses Day; the main ceremonies took place in the town of Metangula and were led by the district government’s Permanent Secretary.
In their message, health professionals reaffirmed their commitment and dedication to patients, even under difficult conditions and with great sacrifice.
At the same time, the nurses called for fair remuneration, arguing that investing in nursing means investing in the quality of healthcare, and that the future of health services depends on valuing healthcare professionals.
Speaking on behalf of the district government, Permanent Secretary Isabel Chande acknowledged the important work nurses have been doing to save lives.
The official also urged health professionals to distance themselves from negative practices such as illegal charges, absenteeism, mistreatment of patients, and other harmful behaviors that affect patients’ lives.
In the same address, Isabel Chande recognized the challenges faced by the profession due to limited financial resources, which hinder the fulfillment of the rights and needs of these professionals. (Davide Muianga)
