Students with Albinism in Cabo Delgado receive assistive and school materials

Thirty-eight students with albinism from schools in the district of Pemba, Cabo Delgado Province, received sun protection products, assistive devices, and school materials this Friday (May 8), in an initiative aimed at strengthening inclusion and school retention among vulnerable learners.

The handover ceremony was led by the Governor of Cabo Delgado Province, Valige Tauabo, who stated that the initiative forms part of the implementation of the Inclusive Education and Child Development Strategy for Children with Disabilities.

According to the Governor, the distribution of assistive and protective materials seeks to improve learning conditions for students with albinism, while also protecting them from harmful sun exposure and reducing the risk of skin diseases.

Speaking during the event, the Provincial Director of Education in Cabo Delgado, Ivaldo Quincardete, explained that the support was made possible through a partnership with Save the Children.

He added that the initiative is expected to benefit a total of 151 students with skin pigmentation disorders (albinism) across the province.

In the coming days, students with albinism from the remaining 16 districts of Cabo Delgado are also expected to receive sunscreen products, assistive devices, and school materials as part of efforts to promote equal access to and retention in education. (Mozanorte)
