The District of Mueda has received USD 7.4 million in funding to strengthen humanitarian assistance for populations displaced by insecurity affecting parts of Cabo Delgado Province.
The announcement was made during an Inter-Sectoral Humanitarian Coordination Meeting chaired by the District Administrator, Atanásio Amba, which brought together representatives from several international organizations and humanitarian partners, including the International Organization for Migration (IOM), UNICEF, UNHCR, CARE, CRS, NRC, Save the Children International (SCI), DI, and Action Against Hunger (ACF).
The meeting aimed to formally present the funds provided by the Government of the United States of America to support humanitarian response efforts in Mueda, one of the key districts hosting internally displaced persons in northern Mozambique.
Speaking at the event, Administrator Atanásio Amba expressed gratitude for the support and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the Government and humanitarian partners to ensure effective assistance to affected families.
“We deeply appreciate this opportunity and the confidence placed in the District of Mueda. We call upon all partners to work with dedication, transparency, and in close collaboration with the Government, because our displaced brothers and sisters are counting on us, and we cannot afford to fail them,” he said.
According to participants, the funding will help strengthen interventions across several humanitarian sectors, including food security, health, education, protection, water, sanitation, and hygiene, benefiting thousands of vulnerable people. (Mozanorte)
