Insurgents continue to employ various tactics in an attempt to eliminate the forces fighting them in Cabo Delgado, as part of their objective to establish a caliphate in the region. However, this effort has faced strong resistance from the Mozambican Defense and Security Forces (FDS), operating jointly with allied forces.
This week, according to residents of Nanjaba, a community located about 16 kilometers from Macomia town, another explosive device was discovered along the road connecting Macomia and Mucojo.
According to the same sources, the intention was for the explosive device to be triggered by Mozambican or Rwandan forces. However, the security forces detected the device and successfully defused it.
This is not the first time insurgents have planted explosives along this road. Earlier this year, an explosive device was detonated by a vehicle belonging to the Mozambique Armed Defense Forces (FADM), causing significant damage.
Residents of Nanjaba have called on the Defense and Security Forces to intensify explosive detection and clearance operations, stressing that the threat endangers not only military personnel but also civilians who use the road to travel between Macomia and Mucojo.
Throughout the insurgency in Cabo Delgado, insurgents have repeatedly used explosive devices in attacks against security forces. More recently, several information outlets also reported the detonation of landmines in the Limala area of Mocímboa da Praia district. (Mozanorte)
