Cabo Delgado: Sad news from Mecufi, three houses burned and woman assaulted

Three (3) houses were turned to ashes and two (2) destroyed in the early hours of Sunday, the 12th, in the locality of Sambene, specifically in the villages of Naguasse and Sambene, in the Mecufi district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, northern Mozambique.

A 43-year-old woman was physically assaulted and witnessed her house being destroyed, after having been rebuilt following the damage caused by Cyclone Chido in Sambene. She is accused of receiving and spreading medicine that causes cholera. In the region, cases of acute diarrhea have already been reported at the Mecufi Health Unit.

In total, five (5) houses were destroyed, three of which were reduced to ashes that night. It was the very population of the villages of Sambene and Naguasse that planned and carried out the crime, according to sources from Mozanorte.

These sources reported that the owners of the destroyed houses were pointed out by the woman, who was captured early in the morning, and the locals began to beat her. Desperate, she supposedly named four other people, but they fled when the crowd went to their homes. (Libério Dinis)
