The population of Chissaua, located in the Insaca administrative post in
Mecanhelas, in Niassa province northern of Mozambique is requesting the
expansion of the water and electricity supply network.
Chissaua, the closest locality to the district headquarters, Insaca, has
been significantly impacted by the scarcity of potable water, which is obtained
from traditional wells and the river. The few improved boreholes available
create long queues for access.
Regarding electricity, solar panels installed by a private company in
some households and public services are only found in the district
headquarters. However, the population is seeking improvements in these
services.
This concern was raised recently during a meeting led by the
administrator of the Mecanhelas district, José Achida Assane, during a visit to
the administrative division.
"We request the expansion of electricity from the town center to
this locality, which could contribute to development," stated a resident.
Another resident added the need for potable water "We also request
the opening of water boreholes to meet the demand," they emphasized.
In response to these and other concerns raised by the residents, the
district administrator assured that the government would continue working on
finding solutions to the problems troubling the population. He highlighted the
ongoing project to build a water supply system in the locality.
"It will be a system with public fountains and also tanks for livestock watering. However, this process is in its final stages. This is an effort by the government to address the difficulties faced by the population," said Achida Assane, the administrator of Mecanhelas.
Chissaua is a potential livestock region in the district but has been
affected by hunger due to the lack of rainfall, compounded by the ecological
conditions of the soil. (Jaime
