It
was unexpected, but it happened last week in the neighborhoods of Natomoto,
Estrada, and Naminhuco Campo, located in the Salinas area of Moma District,
Nampula Province. These areas were partially flooded due to an unusually high
tide.
According
to sources, the water level in the mangrove surrounding these communities
exceeded normal levels, causing the water to overflow into residential areas
and resulting in significant damage.
This
weather event caused several homes to be partially submerged, with some
vehicles also affected by the salty water from the nearby mangrove. Residents
were forced to move their belongings to higher ground as the floodwaters
inundated streets and entered their homes.
Local
residents reported that this phenomenon is not new to the region, although it
was more intense this time. A similar incident occurred a few years ago when
high tide flooded the main access road to Moma town, specifically in the
Salinas area. (Mozanorte)
