The District Cultural House in the district of Nacala,
Nampula province, northern Mozambique, hosted last Saturday, March 1st, a group
of young war displaced from Cabo Delgado, who performed on stage, showcasing
various skills in singing, dancing, and theater.
In this context, several personalities and guests attended
the event to witness this performance, led by young people who formed a theater
group called Changamuka, a name in Maconde and Swahili meaning
"smart" or "clever."
However, some participants interviewed by Mozanorte praised
the initiative of the District Cultural House in promoting shows, including the
participation of young people displaced by the war in Cabo Delgado.
"It’s very good to be in this place, participating in
shows of this nature, seeing young war displaced being welcomed and delighting
us with dance and theater, showing us what is happening in the province of Cabo
Delgado," said Mrs. Antónia António.
For Chimene Costa, general director of C.C. (Connecting
Culture and Connecting Mozambique), a partnership that helped organize the
show, she said:
"It was a performance by young war displaced from Cabo Delgado. It was a
show prepared over 4 months, showing us what is currently happening in Cabo
Delgado. We included these young people because of their trauma; we invited
them so they wouldn't feel abandoned. There will be more shows of this nature.
We want to reach the whole district, including the neighborhoods where the
displaced people live."
For his part, Simão Simão, district director of the Cultural
House, spoke about the event and also addressed the difficulties faced by the
Cultural House:
"This event involved young people displaced from Cabo Delgado. The
district of Nacala needs events like this. As guests, we thought of welcoming
them to bring joy and fun, so they can forget what they experienced in the
past. Living in Nacala and Cabo Delgado means we live in Mozambique. For the
Cultural House, we face several difficulties, such as the lack of drums,
pianos, and other materials, to carry out performances like this."
It is worth mentioning that this was the first show of the
year, promoted by young people displaced from Cabo Delgado, and it is expected
that there will be more performances throughout the year, reaching all
neighborhoods in Nacala where the displaced people from Cabo Delgado reside.
