The
fight for resilience and the protection of populations in emergency situations
gained new momentum in Cabo Delgado with the launch of the Resilience Capacity
Strengthening and Inclusive Support in Emergency Situations (RISE) Project, held
last Tuesday, March 4, 2025.
The
ceremony, which took place in the city of Pemba, marked the start of an
important initiative aimed at comprehensively addressing the needs of displaced
communities and the areas hosting them.
This
project emerges as a strategic and urgent response to the challenges faced by
vulnerable populations, especially women, girls, and people with disabilities,
in the context of prolonged crises.
In
this regard, the RISE mission is to strengthen resilience capacity and provide
inclusive support in emergency situations, creating sustainable alternatives
for livelihoods, promoting gender equality, and respecting human rights.
According
to Governor Tauabo, the initiative will focus on three key areas: strengthening
food security, preventing Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and implementing
protection and rehabilitation measures for people with disabilities.
"This
project not only provides for livelihoods but also creates conditions for
affected populations, especially women and people with disabilities, to feel
like active members of society and exercise their rights with dignity," he
stated.
The
project will be implemented in the districts of Ancuabe (in the communities of
Metoro and Ancuabe Sede) and Montepuez (in the Administrative Post of Mapupulo
and Nicuapa). In terms of impact, it is estimated that 10,000 people will
directly benefit, with the majority being women, girls, and people with
disabilities.
A
funding of 97,500,000 meticais will allow for concrete actions, such as food
distribution, the creation of safe spaces for women and girls, and the implementation
of training programs.
The
initiative also promises an inclusive and accessible approach, with particular
attention to the active participation of communities in decision-making.
The
National Director of "Light for the World," Zacarias Zicai, explained
that the project stands out for its ability to integrate the specific needs of
vulnerable populations. He further emphasized that collaboration with
organizations such as the Institute for Economic and Social Development (IDES),
the Women, Law, and Development Association (MULEIDE), and the Mozambican Forum
of Associations of People with Disabilities (FAMOD) is crucial to ensuring the
success of RISE.
In
the area of Gender-Based Violence, one of the major concerns of displaced
communities, the project is committed to providing prevention services and
support to victims, with a particular focus on creating safe environments where
women and girls can express themselves without fear. (Mozanorte)
