The commitment was
made as part of the celebrations for World Menstrual Hygiene Management Day,
under the guidance of the Leonardo Sefu, Permanent Secretary of the district,
on the morning of Wednesday, [May 28, 2025], at Namicopo Primary School.
In his speech, the
official highlighted numerous initiatives carried out in partnership with
various stakeholders to ensure that girls remain in school. For example, under
the human capital development initiative, 200 Dignity Kits were distributed to
an equal number of girls, and 55 bicycles were handed over to both boys and
girls.
Additionally, around
52 girls benefited from various hygiene materials provided by the “She Belongs
in School” project.
He further emphasized
that menstruation should not be viewed as a taboo but rather as a symbol of
strength and life. He added that building a reality where no girl misses school
due to menstruation is a collective responsibility.
In this regard, he
called on parents and guardians to ensure that their daughters have access to
safe menstrual products and adequate information. He urged teachers to foster
welcoming school environments where girls can express themselves freely and
without shame, also advocating for the inclusion of menstrual education in the
school curriculum.
On
this occasion, 60 Dignity Kits were distributed to the same number of girl
beneficiaries, reinforcing the Government’s commitment to the health, dignity,
and continued education of girls. The celebrations were marked by a themed
competition, cultural performances, and a theatrical play. Jaime Paculeque
