Crime wave in the city of Pemba

On the night of the 27th, the so-called “ana15” (gangs operating in groups of 15) once again left the residents of Chuiba neighborhood, in the city of Pemba, Cabo Delgado Province, on high alert, creating an atmosphere of fear and terror.

According to information gathered by Mozanorte, at around 1 a.m., three individuals approached a residence, seemingly ready to break in, while others stood guard nearby. They attempted to force entry into a local resident’s home. Sensing suspicious movements, the homeowner called out loudly, asking who was there.

In response, the individuals ordered him to be quiet. When he tried to open the door, they threatened him: “Come out if you’re a real man! We need you!” Frightened, he hesitated and muttered, “What kind of joke is this?”

The attackers replied that there were more than just three of them and that this was no joke. They then began counting: “One, two, three...” and started to violently bang on the door with a heavy object, attempting to break it down. This act was repeated more than three times.

In the midst of the tense situation, the woman of the house began screaming for help. Within minutes, neighbors arrived, prompting the criminals to flee the scene. (Sifa Artur)
