Nametil headquarters of
Mogovolas district in Nampula province, experienced a terrifying night in the
early hours of Thursday when 14 heavily armed men,
wielding AKM rifles, invaded the home of a Bengali citizen, a well-known sesame trader in the area.
The assailants broke through
the back door and searched
every room of the house, reportedly in search of large sums of money, according to the Mozambican Police (PRM), who suspect the involvement of internal informants “All indications suggest that the
attackers acted on privileged information,” said Rosa Chaúque, spokesperson for the
PRM.
During the robbery, a shootout occurred between the criminals and a police
patrol, but the
assailants managed to escape the scene.
Authorities are urging the
public to remain highly
vigilant and to cooperate with law enforcement “Community reporting can prevent
tragedies. We also urge traders: do not keep large amounts of money at home,”
warned Chaúque. MOZANORTE
