The 26th anniversary of the Lago Musicians Association was
celebrated last Sunday (May 18th) at the House of Culture in the village of
Metangula, Lago District. The event was attended by David Valente, Head of the
Department of Culture, Youth and Sports, representing the District Director of
Education, along with two members of the PRM (Mozambican Police), one of whom
was the head of the PRM Secretariat.
Helênio Nhenga, President of the Lago Musicians Association,
spoke about the challenges faced by the association. One of the main challenges
is obtaining a legal license, which would allow them to organize events legally
and travel to administrative posts to meet with their members, so they can work
together to promote the district’s culture.
David Valente encouraged the musicians to unite, work
together, and stay focused on their goals. He expressed his desire to see the
Lago musicians become more dynamic—not sitting idle, but taking initiative,
such as forming partnerships and building trust with economic stakeholders.
The event was marked by food, drinks, storytelling, and
dancing. The Lago Musicians Association currently has 52 members from all
administrative posts of the district.
