A man, whose age has not been determined, lost his life following the explosion of a landmine in Nambija 2, located in the Mucojo administrative post, Macomia district, Cabo Delgado province.
According to local sources, the incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, June 17, when the victim left the community to relieve himself. Another version of events suggests he had gone into the bush to cut poles for building a hut.
Residents report that while walking through the bush, the man stepped on an explosive device, resulting in the destruction of both legs.
Although he was rescued and initially taken to a Rwandan medical unit, he was later transferred to the Macomia district health center, which referred him to Pemba city. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away. His body was subsequently transported to the Macomia district headquarters, where the funeral was held.
The origin of the landmine remains
unknown, but the area is known to be a zone of continued activity by terrorist
groups and defense and security forces, including Rwandan troops, as part of
joint operations to combat insurgency in the region. Mozanorte
