The Mechumua
neighborhood in Metangula municipality, Lago district, has had electricity for
over 15 years, but it's not comprehensive. The existing underground power lines
don't cover the entire area, leaving many homes without electricity.
This situation has
led residents to request the construction of an overhead power line to connect
every household to the national grid.
After years of
requests and complaints from residents about being excluded from the
electricity network, the EDM (Electricidade de Moçambique) team began work last
week to address the concerns of the neighborhood's residents.
Mechumua was one of
the first neighborhoods in Metangula municipality to receive electricity, but
its underground system only reached a limited number of homes.
It's
believed that underground lines are very difficult for fault detection, and
their cables are quite expensive. This is why they couldn't reach all
residences, prompting EDM to step in and solve the problem. David Muainga
