Authorities in Cabo Delgado Province have expressed deep concern over the continued prevalence of corrupt practices within public services, following confirmation that 17 public officials and state agents were held both disciplinarily and criminally accountable for their direct involvement in acts of corruption during 2024.
The information was disclosed last Friday, July 11th, during the central ceremonies marking the African Anti-Corruption Day, held in the city of Pemba. The Provincial Governor, Valige Tauabo, highlighted the ongoing efforts to strengthen integrity mechanisms and internal oversight within public institutions.
“As part of an internal drive to promote transparency, we conducted 24 audits, 7,613 monitoring actions, 1,742 inspections, and 94 follow-ups. As a result, 17 public officials and state agents involved in illicit practices were held disciplinarily and criminally accountable,” Tauabo revealed.
The governor further
emphasized that 15 training sessions and a public awareness campaign were
carried out, targeting public servants and community members, with the aim of
encouraging the reporting of corruption cases. Mozanorte
